Next Generation Scholars, First Generation College Bound

Next Generation Scholars

Utilizing funding from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), First Generation College Bound has been able to now work with at least 360 low income students in 10th, 11th , and 12th grades at Duval, Laurel, Parkdale, and Fairmont Heights High Schools.

Next Generation Scholars

These students receive:

  • One-on-one & group coaching sessions by assigned college access coach
  • Presentations and workshops to promote college affordability, career awareness, and a “Winning Attitude for Higher Education”
  • Advice, encouragement, and support
  • Campus Tours

Students participate in workshops with Career Puppy and Maryland Leadership Workshop and register for the SATs with their coach. All of these activities prepare NGS students to enter FGCB’s College Access Program in their senior year of high school.

Enrollment criteria:

  • NGS Application with Letter of Intent
  • Identified as a FARM student in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade
  • Desire to attend college
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Parent/Guardian is required to attend an Orientation
